We're Doolittle Yarnery!
The woman behind Doolittle:
I’m Terri Schlather and I am a knitter who lives in Houston, Texas. I am mom to one adult, a HUGE Houston Astros fan, a lover of college gymnastics, and owner of a sweet little pup called Eliza. I learned to knit in 2019 from a good friend (Hi, Robyn!!!) with the patience of Job. It was a fortuitous time to learn to knit and before long I was prolific and obsessed!
I started venturing to yarn stores quite quickly. My first LYS experience was at Hill Country Weavers in Austin, Texas where the owner, Suzanne, walked me around and talked to me about fibers and yarn weights. She explained a hank to me and made sure my yarn was wound for my first real (aka not a dishcloth) project (it was an infinity scarf that I totally joined in the round twisted on accident!). It was through this experience that I learned two things:
- #weknitintexasyall, and
- Knitting in Texas is a community and not just a craft.
For the longest time I thought I wanted to own my own yarn store and when Doolittle Yarnery was named, that was the intent, but I found myself drawn to the idea of supporting Texas knitters, dyers, and yarn store owners in other ways - with new and interesting tees, bags, and notions that made the kind of statement that Texans love to make. I wanted to cheer on every person involved with yarn in Texas, not just those who shopped at a store I owned.
Where did the name Doolittle Yarnery come from?
Y’all! The list of names that were tried was long. I didn’t love anything and anything I did seem to want was also taken somewhere on the internet or in the fiber verse. So at a Friday night dinner following a knit night a Kani Kettu, a group of us were brainstorming and my friend Loren looked at me and said “Doolittle, like Eliza!” Yes, Eliza Doolittle is the lead character in “My Fair Lady,” but she is also my 6 lb Maltese. So that face in the Doolittle Logo? That’s Eliza Grace aka Eliza Doglittle aka Liza aka Lizard aka Doodle. And that’s how Doolittle Yarnery was born.

Anytime someone hears that I knit and I live in Texas, they are surprised. It's time someone told the rest of the US, that #WeKnitInTexasYall!
